Sunday: got to Rome from Florence...from train station our hotel is about 3 blocks away...dropped off our luggage and took the hop on from an ancient church about 4 blocks away..got some great sites and shots of Rome before sunset...went to Hard Rock ROME for dinner...afterwards, roamed the streets, got some desert...yummy Chocolates...mini cannoli's and nut and chocolate torte... still many people in the streets including kids popping m80 fireworks...
Now in our hotel room (We get our own room tonight) going to bed early so we can hit the streets early for a full day.
Monday AM: As we planned...out the door early and onto the hop on hop off buss early...our goal...Rome in a Day!!! The colosseum is our first stop. Pictures from the enormous colosseum doesn't really do it justice. To walk on the same stones , many uneven from over the years, as Nero, Ceasar, and caligula...as well as many vestal virgins! You can walk in and around the temples, including the first Roman temple on Palatine Hill.
The Vatican....What can we say....Got a tip from a local to take a tour with this group about to leave....no waiting in the line that was nearly a mile long! Got in to see the amazing works, MichelAngelo's paintings (3 of 5 total) and sculptures...AMAZING!
St Peters Basilica...Imagine the most beautiful church you have ever vistied...and times it by at least 10!
Rome is one of the oldest cities in the world....dating back to 753 B.C.!
